Three random things

  1. The ad for the new GMC Hummer EV truck features a very strange cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” done by Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs with Trent Reznor. It simultaneously sounds like the Zep original while also sounding nothing like it. I can’t decide if I like it or not. But that’s not what really bothers me about the ad. At the end, the narrator says “That is how we engineered the Hummer EV, and that is how we will change the world.” I guess the truck looks kind of cool, but at a starting price of $112,595, it’s hard to imagine they can sell enough of them to “change the world,” unless every owner is given a mission to crabwalk over the rest of us with them.
  2. Not really a music stream (though there is some great ambient music used in it) so it doesn’t fit into a Music Saturday post, but if you’re looking for something curious to watch check out The Dandi Line on Twitch. Streaming Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday at 9 p.m. Eastern, each broadcast features a “Dandi” (sequentially numbered on her left thigh) who emerges from a pod and are judged by the viewers on their energy level and other miscellaneous attributes. If she “passes” she gets to go “off world.” If she “fails” she’s “deactivated.” It’s every bit as strange as it sounds. It’s performance art combined with offbeat comedy, and I find it hard to stop watching if I tune in.
  3. The Dodgers win the World Series! Can we stop questioning Dave Roberts’ moves now? Please?
